Shrink wrap is an emerging sector of the construction industry and as such does not have a centralised professional association to drive industry standards. So how can you be sure you’re choosing a reputable company?

Tip #1 – Safety First

A majority of shrink wrap projects require working at heights and as such are operating in a high risk environment. Earlier this year the Department of Labour launched a project to raise awareness about working safely at height and reduce the human and financial toll caused by falls from height.

Shrink wrap companies in New Zealand should follow the Department of Labour’s best practices for working at height. Furthermore in-depth understanding of the best practices for scaffolding will be important as a significant proportion of shrink wrap projects will involve scaffolding.

When searching for shrink wrap provider, those who are members of industry associations such as Site Safe and Master Builders will indicate a commitment to safety standards.

ShrinkMaster advocates best practice and safety standards within the shrink wrap industry. For more information about ShrinkMaster safety practices please feel free to contact us on 0800 726 739.

Wrapping was completed in a few days enabling workers to complete refit work quickly. Our industrial grade shrinkwrap was highly effective in containing overspray and keeping workers dry whilst they cut parts of the boat out.

This type of project was right up our alley as our team has extensive experience in completing similar projects.

George Forbes Building Lincoln University

The challenges faced included:

A hazardous environment in an aftershock

Scaffolding required around the building’s four faces

One of the larger scaffold structures in Christchurch in recent times

A tight timeline

Open to the weather environs (mid winter)

Carrying out the works in a way that enabled Lincoln University to continue operate without disruption

ShrinkMaster was contracted to apply its shrink wrap system to the scaffolding surrounding the eight storey building. This set-up provided protection for workers as they attempted to deliver the project in a shortened timeframe and with impending winter conditions.

Snow falls and polar blasts proved no match for ShrinkMaster’s industrial grade polymer wrap, which remained 100% water proof, intact for the entire project and provided an insulated environment for workers.

Consequently, our clients were able to push forward with their work and the project was delivered on schedule and well within budget.

The project was also featured in the Site Safe newsletter

The week of application coincided with a “weather bomb” which brought high winds and thunderous storms. Thankfully, there was a day’s break in the turbulent weather which allowed for our team to move in quickly and complete the project within several hours.
Premium grade shrink wrap was utilised to ensure the stage was 100% watertight, during the ten day event. The client chose white shrink wrap to provide a canvas for sponsor branding, which was applied post wrap.

ShrinkMaster was also involved in the event pack-down, removing and recycling the shrink wrap.

ShrinkMaster’s Managing Director, Chris Ramsey is a qualified boat builder and avid sailor, who spent several years in Europe working on super yachts, where shrink wrap was commonly used during refit and maintenance work.

“All boats require regular maintenance and no matter the size of the vessel it can be expensive to haul them out of the water every time” says Chris

“That’s where shrink wrapping has such an advantage because it can be applied while the boat is still afloat, saving thousands on haul-out and transportation fees”

With New Zealand’s strong marine culture, Chris grasped the opportunity to apply the technology in his home country. Chris understands that his marine clients invest significant amounts of time, money and emotion into their boats and want the highest results often within short timeframes.

“Regardless of the project I want all our clients to expect the best but I do take particular pleasure in getting a boat back on the water as quickly as possible.”

Marine projects taking advantage of ShrinkMaster’s marine wrapping system include:

Refit of a Royal NZ Navy frigate

Anti-fouling and modification of super yacht Exuma

Royal NZ Navy vessel undergoes repair work

ShrinkMaster has used shrink wrap with great success in the marine, construction, transportation and events industries. Its industrial grade shrinkwrap is imported from the US and has a guaranteed lifetime of two years.

“From the outset I have committed to using the highest grade of shrink wrap available and providing an outstanding level of service. With many satisfied clients, I’m confident we’re on the right track.”

Daylight savings has ended and cooler temperatures are upon us. While some parts of the country have recently been treated to sunny days, we all know that winter is fast approaching. Now is the time to prepare for the frosty, wet days just around the corner.

Tip 1: Protect Leaky buildings from water damage

Carrying out repair work to your leaky home? Autumn is a good time to get the building weather tight before winter. Our product can be applied directly to the house and is guaranteed for two years so even work is not scheduled for some time you can protect against further water damage.

Check out our top five reasons to use shrink wrap

Tip 2: Protect boats whilst in storage or under repair

Are you putting your boat into storage for the winter? Why not protect it from dust and damage with a shrink wrap skin.

Check out ShrinkMaster’s marine projects

Tip 3: Create cover for outdoor events

Planning an outdoor event? Create a weather tight outdoor venue with shrink wrap that can be made to any shape. Over staging, around a tree, extended from a building, let your imagination run wild.
